Red Beans and Black Sesame Seeds Porridge

Black sesame and red bean make a delicious, nutritious porridgeBlack sesame seeds are full of health benefits. They nourish the liver and kidney, having an anti-aging effect. They also improve hair growth and hair color.

One source on the history of Traditional Chinese medicine claims that "Taking black sesame seeds can heal all chronic illness after 100 days, improve skin tone on the body and face after 1 year, reverse gray hair after 2 years, and regrow teeth after 3 years."

While we don't necessarily have research that supports all this, sesame seeds are packed with vitamins and minerals, and they are a good bet for your health. And, this porridge is a great, high-protein, high nutrient meal to look forward to.

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup red beans – soaked overnight
  • ½ cup brown rice – soaked overnight
  • ¾ cup black sesame seeds, toasted
  • brown sugar
  • water

Method:

  1. Soak red beans and brown rice overnight.
  2. Drain the red beans and brown rice.
  3. In a non-stick pan, toast the black sesame at medium heat until fragrant.
  4. Meanwhile, in a large pot, place drained red beans, brown rice, brown sugar, and enough water to cover.
  5. Cook on high heat until done, making sure to check the water level every 15 minutes.
  6. When fully cooked, add the toasted sesame seeds to the porridge.
  7. Serve.
