Emotions and feelings can have a tremendous impact on your well-being and health. It is commonly thought that certain emotions can illicit certain physical reactions, however this has not been proven until now. Researchers from Finland have found definitive proof that emotions directly affect some body parts. This mind body connection maybe be the secrets for a happy life with optimal physical and emotional health.
Researchers tested over 700 participants and asked them to color body regions they felt had increased or decreased activity when being stimulated with certain emotions. These maps were consistently associated with certain emotions elicited no matter the race or person.
For example, fear is felt in one’s chest, disgust in the throat, and shame in your cheeks. most importantly, happiness was seen as an increase in activity all over the body while depression was viewed as a general decrease in activity, especially in the extremities.
Adrenal fatigue is as much a physical condition as it an emotional one and while it is important to not let yourself become emotionally exhausted, it is also important to enjoy these positive emotions and let your body heal from it. Look upon life with a positive attitude and enjoy every day. Fill your life with love, happiness, and all the other positive emotions and literally have your body respond to it.
The benefits of visualization when battling disease has been a hot topic for quite a while now. Many doctors believe that it works, and many more doctors believe that it is hocus-pocus. There aren’t any solid studies that provide a direct correlation between visualization and curing cancer or other disease, but there have been enough personal anecdotes to warrant consideration.
Negative feelings such as fear and anxiety naturally lead to an increase in stress hormone which causes cellular inflammation and decreases your body’s defenses. Imagining and visualizing yourself in a healthy body can decrease these uneasy feelings, and over time lower stress hormone levels.
Studies have shown that heart attacks tend to occur more on mondays than any other week. Why? Researchers think it is because of the increased stress associated with going back to work. So if negative emotions can have a negative impact on your body, why can’t positive emotions have a positive effect on your body. Other studies have shown that people with positive attitudes tended to live longer and have less heart attacks.
This is not to say that you should be in denial. Realize you have a disease, understand it, take the proper measure to deal with it, and do it all with a positive attitude and a fighting spirit.
Laugh! Hire funny movies or recall any memories that make you laugh. Laugh your way back to health.
Make lists every day of all the things you are grateful for, including being grateful for your healing and complete well being.
Distract yourself from thoughts of disease, and put all of your focus and attention on doing things that make you feel good.
Make your happiness the number one thing in your life.
They say that laughter is the best medicine. While that might be a little bit of a stretch, laughter and a positive outlook are a great way to help yourself during a stressful time, such as sickness, and certainly better than the alternative, crying and depression.
Look upon everything with love and positivity. A positive mindset eases stress on the body, and facilitates healing. Love life, not fear it. Being a sick or ill can certainly put a damper on anybody’s outlook, but letting it rule your life is the best way to lose life. Instead, embrace your illness and embrace life. Don’t sulk in bed with the curtains closed trying to wish away the pain. Try putting on your favorite comedy movie and having a good laugh. Laughter is a great. You may not think about it, but laughter is a bit like exercising. A good belly laugh uses your core abdominal muscles and requires constant work from your diaphragm to repeated exhale. Hopefully, you have experienced something or some event in your life that had you laughing till it hurt, well that hurt is like being sore the next day from exercising.
Another thing that laughter does is increase endorphin levels in your body. Endorphins are nature’s pain medication. They act like opiates and cause the body to feel calm with a sense of euphoria. They are thought to be associated with a “runner’s high”. Thus, whenever you are having a good hearty laugh, you are literally getting “high” on life.
Now remember, in order to experience these positive effects, they have to be knee slapping, belly aching laughs. chuckling simply won’t cut it. So next time you are feeling a little under the weather or it’s just raining outside, pop in a DVD and let it rip.
