Can Adrenal Fatigue be Dangerous to Your Current and Long-term Health?

An image of an anxious womanIf you are feeling anxious and sleep-deprived on a regular basis, you have to know you are not alone. The pressures of daily life, especially during the pandemic, can affect your body in ways that might be difficult for you and your doctor to diagnose correctly.

Chronic stress day after day after day puts an undue strain on your adrenal glands' ability to generate hormones — particularly cortisol — causing them to be overtaxed and not work optimally.

Symptoms of adrenal fatigue include feeling tired all the time, trouble sleeping, sugar cravings, and problems with focus and concentration.

Left unattended, Adrenal Fatigue can lead to more dangerous health conditions, such as obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue, it is important to discuss your symptoms with your doctor who can help you determine if you have adrenal fatigue and recommend treatment.

Adrenal Fatigue and Obesity

It may be a coincidence that adrenal fatigue and obesity are so often seen together, or it could be that adrenal fatigue actually causes weight gain.

Regardless of the cause, adrenal fatigue sufferers do seem to struggle with their weight more than those without adrenal issues.

One reason is that adrenal glands create hormones, like cortisol. When your adrenals can't produce cortisol at the rate needed to combat stress, cortisol levels can get out of whack, resulting in adrenal fatigue that not only depletes your energy but also affects your weight negatively. Weight gain with cortisol imablances tend to be centered around the middle of the body more.

In fact, having too little cortisol over time can be dangerous if not treated.

Adrenal Fatigue and Heart Disease

Many people with adrenal fatigue also have high blood pressure, a condition that puts them at risk for heart disease.

If left untreated, having ongoing high blood pressure is one of the leading causes of full-blown cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Adrenal Fatigue and Diabetes

One of the serious risks associated with adrenal fatigue is imbalanced blood sugar.

If your sugars do not get balanced for an extended period of time, insulin issues may start to arise and diabetes may become a problem.

No matter what the cause, adrenal fatigue with diabetes can be a dangerous combination that warrants medical attention.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of adrenal fatigue, it is important to see a doctor who can help you determine if adrenal fatigue is the cause of your symptoms, and recommend treatment.
